Automated receiving may be accomplished utilizing a Symbol 1800 or 1500 Data collection device. Using hotsync,  open or partial purchase orders are downloaded to the device. When goods come in, a barcode representing the purchase order number is scanned, or a specified PO may be picked from a drop list. Then the line items appear on the screen. If it is obvious that all the items match the counts on the PO the receiving person can press the “receive all” button.

You can also receive the full line or specify the quantity received. When the receiving is complete the device is synced back to the host (RMS) and the Purchase orders are populated accordingly. The purchase orders are then committed by the operator, and the inventory counts are updated.
